From a literacy class in Mpape to a humanitarian movement
Although GCDIM was duly registered as a non-governmental organisation in 2025, its journey of humanitarian service, community development and human capacity building dates back to 2016/2017. Formal registration gave the organisation the legal framework and recognition to expand its work in accordance with applicable laws.
That journey began with a deep passion for community service and gave birth to the Brain Spark Tutors Initiative (BSTI) in the rural community of Mpape, Abuja: a modest effort offering free adult literacy to people who had never had the chance to learn because of poverty, difficult family circumstances or lack of access. In 2017 it began fully with just three learners, and gradually grew into a transformative learning experience that brought people from the streets and underserved backgrounds into the classroom. Everyone was welcome, without discrimination based on colour, language, religion, nationality, social background or age.
Why the name: God Can Do It Mission
The change from BSTI to GCDIM was inspired by an experience that deeply moved the Founder. He was teaching adults who could neither read, write, speak nor adequately understand English. Watching them progress from joining alphabets to reading words, building sentences and engaging with complex ideas was remarkable. The transformation seemed such a miracle that only the God of all languages could make it possible, and that conviction gave us our name. It stands for more than a faith expression: it reflects our enduring belief in the possibility of transformation, even where society may have given up on an individual.
Education as a pathway to transformation
The experience reinforced an important lesson: the character, confidence, choices and possibilities open to a person are shaped by the quality of education, guidance and exposure they receive. Some beneficiaries regretted lost years without schooling, but were encouraged that learning has no age limit. Where possible, the initiative offered continued coaching, mentorship and practical exposure, including internships and skills development.
From literacy to a broader humanitarian mission
As needs became more visible, it was clear that challenges went beyond literacy. People needed encouragement, skills, opportunities, dignity, support, mentorship and inclusion. GCDIM grew into a humanitarian and community development organisation supporting people through education, human capacity development, digital empowerment, humanitarian assistance, advocacy and sustainable community interventions.
Meaningful impact can begin with very little
Between 2017 and 2025/2026, GCDIM and its precursor initiatives ran outreach and intervention programmes across adult literacy, free digital skills training, medical and health outreach, counselling, human rights advocacy and community development, reaching orphanages, correctional and remand facilities, schools, IDP camps and rural communities.
Achieved through sacrifice, volunteerism and goodwill
GCDIM has not had substantial or sustained funding from major national or international NGOs. Much of what has been achieved was made possible by personal sacrifices, modest internal resources, volunteers, goodwill and small individual donations.
If we have reached so many with so little, imagine the impact with the right resources, technical expertise, institutional partnerships, grants and equipment. We see partnership not simply as financial support, but as a way to multiply impact, strengthen systems and scale our work to thousands more people, and beyond Nigeria.
Impact begins with a willing heart
These milestones were achieved by a united force of volunteers, legal experts, healthcare professionals, educators, community leaders, partners and compassionate individuals. Impact does not always begin with abundant resources; sometimes it begins with a willing heart, a committed team and the courage to start with what is available. GCDIM has started with what it has, and with the right partners and support we are ready to do significantly more, more professionally and at scale.
Join us today as a volunteer, sponsor or partner
This is an urgent call to bring together compassionate people willing to stand in the gap for the less privileged. We need your resources, heart, hands, ideas and voice. This is more than a mission: it is a movement, a community of love and a family of change-makers. There is a place for you in this movement!
Warm regards and deep appreciation from all of us at God Can Do It Mission.
